Product Description
Jolandie Fouché is a new and really exciting winemaker who immediately makes an impression and creates hope for the future in South Africa. Jolandie was born and raised in Malmesbury in the Swartland, which on the surface is South Africa’s largest region. Here it is very hot and dry and Swartland is the region that is usually first out with harvest. Jolandie strives to make wines that truly reflect her origins. In Wolf & Woman Wine, she wants to use the knowledge she gained through working as a winemaker in Australia and California, as well as with other producers in South Africa. The vineyard’s name comes from a quote Jolandie’s husband sent to her a few years ago and which he thought matched her. The poet who wrote the quote is named Clarissa Pinkola Estés. “Some days I am more wolf than a woman and I am still learning how to stop apologizing for my wild”. Jolandie emphasizes that she sees many parallels between the wolf and the woman, in that both are loyal, protective, wild and beautiful. She wants to describe herself as creative, instinctive and passionate. Three characteristics that she believes are crucial if you are to produce great wine.
Beautiful purple color. The bouquet has an aromatic scent of red currants, dried herbs and spices. The palate shows lovely fruit concentration and structure, wild flowers, blackberries and plums. The tannins are crisp, unforced and the wine offers up impressive complexity and definition through the dark cherry stones, wild herbs and sweet earth notes that complement the vibrant acidity.
