Product Description
Tony Soter’s name is an iconic one within the context of California wine, but he is actually from Oregon. Soter Vineyards began in 1997 when Tony and Michelle Soter bought the Beacon Hill vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton district of the Willamette Valley. This was the source of their first Pinot Noir and sparkling wines. Since then, Soter Wines has become established at the Mineral Springs Ranch near Carlton, a 240 acre property of savanna-like woodland and grazing land that includes a 30 acre planting of vineyard: it is home to 500 sheep and 50,000 vines. The wines are made in a refurbished barn that dates back to 1943. There are underground cellars in the hillside next to the barn which serve as the winery’s barrel room and a recently constructed fermentation room completes the winemaking facilities. At Soter Vineyards we farm our wine. These wines are a reflection of the intention to convey place as an essential character in everything we make. The combination of respectful farming and craftsmanship as well as our ancient soils and temperate climate result in wines that are layered, nuanced and seductively captivating while remaining modest in alcohol and tannin, a happy consequence of the interaction of both the hand and the land. Tony and Michelle Soter share an uncompromised commitment to their ideals in managing their business and Mineral Springs Ranch. Working together they consistently produce wines of the highest caliber in a way that treads softly on the earth. Their ideals are conveyed through respectful farming and craftsmanship that allow a unique voice to emerge from these ancient soils and temperate climate. After years of diligence, the Soters continue to be mindful stewards of the land and are dedicated to providing an unrivaled workplace, sustaining a compassionate team that makes Soter Vineyards what it is today.
Light, bright red. High-pitched aromas of fresh red berries, rose and white pepper. Juicy and taut on entry, then fleshier in the mid-palate, offering gently sweet strawberry and spice cake flavors and a tangy note of orange pith. Finishes with good clarity and decent persistence, leaving a tangy red fruit note on the finish.
