Product Description
MENDEL Winery embodies the union of Roberto de la Mota -one of Argentina’s most respected and experienced winemakers- with an established Argentine family. Originating high in the Andes Mountains, the alluvial soils of Mendel vineyards in Lujan de Cuyo are very poor in organic material. They are sandy on top with stone and gravel below giving excellent drainage during the rare bursts of rain in Mendoza. Excellent mineral content and low amounts of nitrogen result in healthy plants, but with low vigor, which helps increase concentration of flavor in the grapes. Together we are dedicated to producing wines of unquestionable superior quality expressing the quality and character of our very old Malbec and Cabernet vineyards in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina. We choose the best lots from our almost 80-year-old vineyards, paying rigorous attention to every detail of the artisan winemaking process, from carefully sorting bunches to fermentation in small tanks to aging in the finest French oak. Ancient vineyards, passionate people, experience and friendship are blended to create our remarkable wines.
Deep purple-red, with intense reflections of violet. Brilliant appearance with great density and viscosity. The bouquet is very intense and complex. Ripe plums, black cherries, raspberries and sour cherries aromas appear even before swirling Then fresher floral notes like violets emerge, followed by vanilla, caramel, coffee and blond tobacco. After swirling, these oak aromas become more present along with notes of black licorice. The wine has great body and structure. The entry at first seems sweet and smooth, but the mature and very present tannins start filling the mouth, giving the wine great volume and viscosity. It is a concentrated and fleshy Malbec, and the balancing acidity lends an interesting freshness and relief. The fruit aromas reinforce the wine’s perfectly ripe qualities, and the vanilla, caramel, coffee and tobacco notes coming from the French oak give it remarkable length.
