Product Description
Boschendal is one of the oldest wine producers in the New World with a French viticultural heritage dating back to 1685. The farm “Bossendaal” (wood and dale) was granted in 1685 to French émigré Jean le Long by the governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel. Le Long was one of the many Protestant Huguenots who fled from France to escape religious persecution after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. Part of the present Boschendal winery was originally the cellar for Le Rhone Manor House, built in 1795. Although we are very proud of our Huguenot heritage, we are very conscious of the need to keep abreast of ongoing advancements in wine-making. This requires continuous research and development to keep the cellar on the cutting edge, enabling the wine-makers to use the latest technology and the best resources to make wines of the highest quality that reflect both our unique terroir and our noble French heritage.
A vibrant mulberry and blackcurrant with riper plum notes and classic tobacco spiciness on the bouquet. The palate has an attractive burst of rich dark to black fruits showing mulberry, blackcurrant, ripe plum and spice aromas that carry through to a smooth, juicy entry supported by ripe tannins and just discernible cigar box spiciness. Well integrated and smooth, with a lingering rich finish of dark berry fruits. Ripe tannin imparts good drinkability that offers a broad appeal.
