Product Description
Nearly 300 year-old Mahon gin, named Xoriguer about 100 years ago, is one of only two gins in Europe to have a specific appellation or EU designation of origin – meaning it can only be made on the island, according to a specific distillation process. The Xoriguer recipe is a legacy from the early 18th century when the British Mediterranean fleet was based in Menorca and distilled gin for its soldiers and sailors. Today the same recipe, using local grape spirit and botanicals, is well-known throughout the Baleraric islands and Spain. An undiscovered Gem!
A fair amount of juniper, with strong floral notes, including grapeflower. Reminded some of the panel of pines and a forest. This had a very complex start, the flavours were intense and then diminished over time in a diminuendo of flavour. Soft and silky, rich in juniper and very floral; not too sweet and had a faint, and not unpleasant, hint of soap on the finish.
