After many years in the wine trade, American ex-pat John Glaser entered the world of Scotch whisky, learning his art through one of the industry’s largest companies. In 2000, he started Compass Box Whisky Company, based on his commitment to evolving practices in the industry to make great Scotch whisky more approachable and relevant to more people. From the beginning, his vision has been to create one of Scotland’s finest and most exciting whisky companies, re-establishing the standards for quality and style in the industry. At Compass Box we make a variety of whiskies which cover the spectrum of flavours Scotch whisky offers. We choose the best distillates from the best distilleries, aged in the highest quality oak casks. With these building blocks, we create whiskies with richness, balance and purity of flavour. Old gold in colour. The bouquet shows rich and deep. Cereal notes and ripe fruit (apple, pear). A succession of spices (cinnamon, nutmeg), nuts (almond, apricot) and candied citrus (grapefruit, lemon) coated with precious wood and beeswax. The palate is balanced, wraparound. Its fruity sweetness (Mirabelle plum) is noticeable. Forgotten, the relative dryness of the bouquet, at most, the bitterness of malted barley. Anyway, apart from the green button it provides, it has no influence. Vanilla and some exotic fruits (pineapple, mango, guava) accentuate its smooth character. The finish is long and firm. Spices (cloves and more) are completely fused with fine notes of oak, vanilla and fresh walnuts. Candied, citrus became much more fresh and juicy. It is dotted with sheer floral notes (lime) and herbaceous (mint).
